InkTober – A 31 day exercise

Another year has passed and another InkTober is upon us! Hot dog! For those that don’t know, InkTober is a challenge where you must create one ink-based drawing each day for the full 31 days of October. The challenge was created by artist Jake Parker and has been running for a few years now. Anybody can do it and full details can be found here: The InkTober Challenge.

TWENTY FIFTEEN

Last year I decided to do my first Inktober challenge. I approached the 31 days as an opportunity to challenge my speed and perspective skills by adhering to a set of predefined rules, including a strict one hour time limit and prohibiting the use of reference material.

You can see the full 31 pictures from last year’s Inktober HERE, along with more detail on my self-imposed rules and why I chose stuff.

TWENTY SIXTEEN

I got so many good feels doing last year’s Inktober that I had to do it again! This year I’ve decided to really challenge myself by coming up with interesting ideas quickly. Newspaper cartoonists are able to come up with ideas every day, but not only that, they have to create something witty which is then displayed to thousands of readers! That’s some kinda pressure.

Inktober Themes

Similarly to last year, I have selected 31 themes to cover over the next month. In order to challenge my creative idea-generating, I will be illustrating 31 Conversatials. Conversatials are little snippets of conversation overheard by my brother Stefan while out and about. I’ve illustrated some previously (see below) and more can be found on the Conversatial site.

These are the guidelines and rules I’ve put in place for each day’s drawing:

  1. Each drawing will be based on a randomly picked Conversatial which I will read, think up an idea for, and illustrate said idea.
  2. I will aim to complete each drawing in an hour but I won’t stress if I go over this time.

WHERE CAN YOU SEE THEM

I will be posting the images daily on my website on a new page that I’ve set up in the left-hand menu entitled “Inktober 2016” (so I don’t have to keep reminding you about them over the next month HAHAHAHAHA!). I will then post them to my newly set up Pinterest page (because I like Pinterest now), and then post them to the Conversatial instagram and link to my own instagram. Ugh, social medias.

Well, that is all. Thank you for your time and interest. Please leave any comments, questions and suggestions below. Have a good hour!
